Sphere Research & Development is a veteran-founded, American-owned ammunition company based in Von Ormy, Texas, in the San Antonio area. We bring together backgrounds in military service, protective operations, firearms instruction, and product development.
Those experiences shape how we work: pay attention to the details, take ownership of the process, and keep the shooter in mind. Our ammunition is manufactured in-house using American-made components, with a focus on consistency and practical performance.
Our match-grade lineup includes 9mm 124gr FMJ and 5.56 NATO 77gr OTM ammunition. From the round to the packaging and how shooters access our products, we look for meaningful ways to improve the range experience.

Our patent-pending target box brings a printed target into the packaging itself. It is a practical expression of our approach: consider the whole range experience, including what happens after the box is opened.
We are also bringing ammunition closer to where it is used. Our vending machine at Apocalypse Tactical Range in Von Ormy gives shooters on-site access to ammunition.

Ric
Founder / Managing Partner
Ric brings decades of experience in military operations, protective services, and strategic leadership. His background includes U.S. Marine Corps service and more than ten years as a high-threat contractor for the Department of State.
His work has included infantry service, leadership across high-threat protective teams, instruction, and executive protection for individuals and families around the world. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Security Management.
At Sphere R&D, that experience informs a disciplined approach to operations, attention to manufacturing detail, and a long-term vision for the company.
Ty
Managing Partner
Ty leads with a focus on operations, product development, and building ammunition around performance, reliability, and consistency.
After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and deploying to Afghanistan, he continued into private-sector protective work, with extensive training in executive protection, countersurveillance, high-threat personal security, and professional security driving.
As a firearms instructor and shooter, Ty brings a practical perspective to Sphere’s products. His emphasis on responsible handling, safety, and attention to detail carries into the company’s approach to manufacturing and serving its customers.
